A Letter from Bishop Gregory J. Hartmayer

My Dear Friends in Christ,

Peace and all Good Things!

Welcome to the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. It is a magnificent house of worship.

I invite you to take a virtual tour and discover the beauty and history of this Mother Church of the Savannah Diocese. The altar of sacrifice and the baptismal font are fashioned out of Carrara marble. The pulpit features the carvings of the four evangelists. The Blessed Sacrament altar is a prayerful setting for Eucharistic meditation and adoration. The bright murals and the stained glass windows tell the stories of the lives of Jesus and his Blessed Mother.

For more than a century, this beautiful edifice has been a sacred place for prayer, song, celebration and reconciliation for the people of south Georgia and visitors from all over the world.

I hope you will have the opportunity to visit this wonderful Cathedral and experience this holy place where God’s people gather to offer Him praise and thanksgiving.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Gregory J. Hartmayer, OFM Conv.
Bishop of Savannah
