The Fourteenth Annual Cathedral Heritage Gala
November 21, 2014

The Fourteenth Annual Cathedral Heritage Gala returns on Friday, November 21, 2014 with a new and exciting format.  The Gala has become the biggest social event of the year for the Cathedral Parish and this year's event will be a wonderful evening of fellowship and camaraderie.   This year a Cathedral Plaza Reception and Concert inside Savannah's beautiful Cathedral will compliment the traditional auction.

All proceeds will benefit The Cathedral Heritage Endowment Fund

Plaza Reception and Cathedral Benefit Concert

Prior to the Gala Dinner and Auction, there is a reception on the Plaza in front of the Cathedral. Join your friends and neighbors as you enjoy hors d’oeuvres and beverages under the stars. The concert will be inside the Cathedral with its amazing acoustics. Under the direction of the Cathedral’s Music Director Mr. McDowell Fogle, local musicians and singers will entertain you and your friends. Reception and Concert Tickets are available for individual sales.

Heritage Preservation Gala Dinner and Auction

This year’s Gala Dinner and Auction will be at the Chatham Club in the Hilton DeSoto. This new venue gives donors beautiful views of Savannah while experiencing fine dining. Valet parking is included in the sponsorship packets. The unique auction items include the Bishop’s Mystery Item, trips, boat trips, golf outings, jewelry, and other valuable items to take home. Dinner and auction tickets are available for individual sales.

The Cathedral is Part of Historic Savannah, Georgia

The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist is a Savannah Landmark.  Its twin spires are among the most prominent structures on the Savannah skyline.   Recently, TripAdviser readers ranked the Cathedral among the TOP TEN DESTINATIONS in the United States along with such famous places as The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.    The Cathedral Heritage Gala isn't just for Catholics -- it's a community event for everyone who loves the beauty of our 19th century Cathedral and wants to help preserve its future.

How are the Cathedral’s Preservation and Restoration Projects Funded?

In 2001, Bishop J. Kevin Boland and Monsignor William O. O’Neill wisely envisioned a new, sustainable method of funding the Cathedral’s capital building needs. A Heritage Endowment Fund was established to move beyond the history of remedial repairs funded by debt. This Fund leads to a future of less-costly conservation and preservation paid with the investment returns of a body of funds specifically dedicated solely to those purposes.

What is the primary source of funding for the Heritage Endowment Fund?

The Annual Heritage Preservation Gala is held each year in the fall with all net proceeds going into the Heritage Endowment Fund. As we begin preparations for the 2014 Gala, the Endowment Fund has $1,800,000 in assets and is generating annually over $100,000 in investment returns. We must broaden the Fund’s base of fi nancial support— and thus, produce greater investment earnings to sustain the Cathedral for generations to come.
